The Madison area had 2,700 fewer people employed in November than in the same month last year, a drop of 0.8 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics said Tuesday.
Employment in the Milwaukee area fell 1.3 percent over the same period, with 11,200 fewer people working, the preliminary data showed.
Nationwide, Dallas was the metropolitan area with the biggest employment gain from November 2007 to November 2008, with an increase of 31,100 jobs. Metro Washington, D.C., came in second, up 27,000, and the Seattle area was third, with a 23,900 increase.
The Warren, Mich., area suffered the biggest 12-month job loss, with 39,200 fewer people employed. Santa Ana, Calif., had a drop of 38,400; and Chicago was down 34,400, the BLS said.
