Dean Health System is the only organization in the Upper Midwest enrolling patients in a study of an experimental Alzheimer's disease drug that has been featured in recent episodes of the TV show "Boston Legal."
The study is evaluating Dimebon, a drug that has shown promise in earlier tests on Alzheimer's patients, Dean said Thursday in a news release. Nationally, the study will enroll 525 patients, some of whom will initially get a fake drug to assess whether the real drug works better.
"Boston Legal" character Denny Crane, played by actor William Shatner, has been searching for places that offer the drug.
