Two homes in the Stoughton area that were damaged during the 2005 tornado and have been restored will be open to tour, along with three other houses, on Saturday during an event benefiting the American Cancer Society.
The five-home tour includes an inside look at the recreated farmhouse known as Grimsrud, originally built in 1887. The house was destroyed in the August 2005 tornado and rebuilt on a nearby hilltop. The owners and a custom builder used a plan of the old house to redesign the new one, which they describe as "a fat American version of the Norwegian original." Many original interior doors were used in the new house that includes modern improvements such as closets, laundry chutes, pantry and mud room.
Tickets for the 2008 American Cancer Society Relay for Life Holiday Tour of Homes are $20 and are available at the Stoughton Camber of Commerce and McGlynn's Pharmacy in Stoughton, Oregon Pharmacy and The Montage in McFarland. For more information, call 877-1498.
The tour runs from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday. Tickets include a map and full event details. A reception including a swing band and silent auction will follow the tour.
